村头社区位于广深高速公路与107国道的交角处，居舍集中，村中多青砖大屋。村内有礼屏公祠，村侧有新石器时代的贝丘遗址。[4][2]

外来人口超过一万人，户籍人口则为908人（2024年）。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

关于建村年代，各家说法不一。博雅地名网称村头宋代立村，东莞市政府网的村落介绍则称卢氏建村于明代，村民姓卢。[1][4]

建国后，此地先归北宁乡；1958年以后隶属北栅大队。1977年，它脱离出来，改名村头大队。1987年成为村头管理区，1999年撤区设村，建立村头村委会；2005年改为村头居委会。[1]

文物与古迹[edit]

1987年，省考古队沿广深高速公路的桩位勘探文物，在村侧朗下发现新石器时代贝丘遗址，采集到夹沙陶片、石斧、石锛等，初步勘探的遗址面积约两万多平方米。[4]

礼屏公祠位于西七巷1号，是虎门保存较好的祠堂之一。东莞市政府网的村落介绍称，晚清时卢作新在外埠经商，回村中建成此祠；博雅地名网则写作1897年（光绪二十三年）建成。百度百科说该祠由清末侨商卢礼屏之子卢绍勋及其兄弟捐建，用以纪念卢礼屏。该祠2004年列为东莞市文物保护单位，2022年入选第十批广东省文物保护单位名单。[4][1][2]

卢礼屏即卢赓扬，1829年（道光己丑九年）生于村头村，1884年（光绪甲申十年）在广州病逝，曾任香港东华三院总理。[2][5]
