旧称“老平塘”的池塘位于同乐街一带，本村委会坐落于池塘西南端，处在它的下游，村名由此而来。[1]

「广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村」首批名单于2020年8月由广东省农业农村厅公布，塘下村以草菇入选。[1]
