石潭是石潭镇的街道社区，也就是石潭圩镇所在地，为全镇的政治、经济与文化中心。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据传，一百多年前，山咀至陈爷庙一带有一个白色岩石的大洞；陈爷庙后的山下有一条河，河上一处深潭，两岸发展成圩镇。此地原称白石潭，后来简称石潭。[1]

地理环境[edit]

社区辖区面积约2.2平方千米，清连高速公路、省道114线与滨江河都从境内穿过。[1]

社区下辖12个自然村庄，有11条街道（巷）以及2个移民新村。户籍人口8914人、3654户；圩镇范围内常住人口有1.5万多人。以上数字见于博雅地名网，未注明年份。[1]
