境内有座山，外形像一个圆土墩，叫墩头山，村因此得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1958年建公社时称墩塘大队，属九和公社；1961年分属新设的瓦溪公社；1983年改为墩头乡，1987年称村委会，1989年为管理区，1999年撤管理区，设墩头村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
