赤坑镇在广东省肇庆市广宁县北部，镇政府设在赤坑圩，辖1个社区、9个行政村，面积约181平方公里。[1]2020年第七次全国人口普查时，全镇人口约1.08万人；广东省农业农村厅2020年8月公布第二批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业镇，赤坑镇以砂仁入选。[1]当地以山地林木、水电和花岗岩石材见长。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

赤坑一带在清道光年间已有集市，隶属永义铺。[4]建国后此地为赤坑公社（1979年已见此名）；1983年秋公社改作区，1987年4月区再改为镇，6月设赤坑居民委员会。村一级1989年6月改称管理区，1998年12月又改回村民委员会，辖境始终未变。[1]

地名由来[edit]

关于“赤坑”的来历，当地有两种说法：一说古时这里曾是战场，河水被鲜血染红；另一说赤坑圩所在之处山高林密，河水出自山泉，水温偏低，而广宁话把“冷”叫作“赤”，“赤坑”即“冷水坑”。[1]

地理环境[edit]

赤坑镇在广宁县北部，北邻清远市阳山县，西、东两侧与怀集县接壤，南面与本县坑口镇相接，东北与北市镇交界。[3][5][6]据博雅地名网所录的概况，全镇耕地17673亩，山地23万亩，气候属亚热带季风型，平均气温20.7℃，每年降雨1734毫米；镇驻地离广州约140公里，离县城约42公里。[2]

经济[edit]

同一份概况称，镇内水力资源可开发约2.2万千瓦，建有水电站16座，总装机容量约1.2万千瓦；花岗岩以“云山红”知名，蕴藏量约20亿立方米；林木蓄积量约76万立方米。[2]当时镇里的主要企业有水电企业、石料开发总公司（下设22个石场和4个石料板材厂）和林工商发展公司（辖17间木器加工厂）。[2]该概况记载1999年全镇社会总产值约2.72亿元，其中工农业总产值约2.62亿元。[2]各村的土特产有蜂蜜、笋干、白花茶油、风栗、砂仁等。[3][7]

名胜古迹[edit]

赤坑社区交赞村有「中国人民解放军粤桂湘边纵队司令部旧址」，原为当地谢姓居民的祖祠“肖梅谢公祠”，三进三开间，砖木结构，金字瓦顶，占地面积37平方米，纵深约29.7米，横宽约11.4米。[1]长乐居炮楼在交赞村的东北侧，建于民国初年，楼高4层，用砖木筑成，墙体厚0.6米。[1][3]福排村委会辖下的黎碧村北侧还有一座黎碧村炮楼，同样是民国初年村民防备匪患所建，楼高4层，占地28.7平方米。[1][5]
