沙子村是广东省茂名市信宜市平塘镇辖下的行政村。[1]

地名由来[edit]

博雅地名网记有一则传说：从前有个富人赌钱后夜里回家，路黑难行，便沿路撒下白银，村人点灯争相拾银，一路照他回家。后人讥他是个不知珍惜钱财的傻人，因写不出那个「傻」字，用音近的「沙」代替，遂有沙子之名。这是民间传说，并非史实记载。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期归平塘乡第五堡；新中国成立后仍在平塘乡内，人民公社化后的1962年立沙子大队，1980年改作沙子乡，1985年起称村民委员会，1990年一度叫管理区办事处，1999年重称村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2023年5月，该村获广东省爱卫会授予「2022年广东省卫生村」称号。[1]
