旺罗村是高州市南塘镇下辖的行政村，又名旺锣，地处曹江、大井、南塘三镇交界，紧邻207国道和鉴江[1][3]。村名出自一则抵御贼人的传说[1]。

地名由来[edit]

相传有支大股盗贼夜里抢了鉴江对岸的罗村，还想渡江袭击这个村。一位村民提着大铜锣沿江岸敲打，声音传得很远，贼人胆寒退走。村人为纪念此事，称村为“旺锣”，后来谐音改写成旺罗[1][2]。

历史沿革[edit]

1958年公社化时为旺罗兵营，1961年拆为湾头、旺昌和平别三队，1963年并为旺罗大队，1983年改旺罗乡，1986年改农村管理区，1999年改称旺罗村民委员会[1]。

现状[edit]

据百度百科，村辖11个村民小组，总面积8平方千米，在册738户、户籍人口3191人（该条未注明年份），耕地1253亩，说高州话；以水稻、香蕉种植为主，建有旺罗电站；村域三面环山，保存有旺罗庙、大岭头以及甲山坡的百年荔枝园，并划进高州市「鉴江印象」乡村振兴示范带项目[3]。

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，旺罗村在广东省2018年度「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建名单之列；入选广东省卫生村名录（2019年度）[1]。
