谢鸡镇是广东省茂名市高州市东南部的建制镇，东邻新垌镇，南接泗水、根子两镇，西靠山美街道，北连曹江、长坡两镇。全镇面积103.2平方千米，辖1个社区、19个行政村，2019年末户籍人口64631人。[1]
名称由来[edit]
民间传说，古时此处康姓一家独富，相邻三个姓氏心生妒忌，联合建了三鸡庙，借「鸡」与「糠」的谐音相制，使各姓氏得以均衡发展；为酬谢「三鸡」，地方得名谢鸡，后来形成的集市叫谢鸡圩，镇又以圩名为名。[1][2]
历史沿革[edit]
新中国成立前后，这里设谢鸡乡。博雅地名网所记的变迁是：1956年一度改区，次年复称乡；1958年9月划入超美公社；1983年再改为区；至1986年12月建镇。[3] 维基百科的记载有出入，称1950年设乡、1958年立谢鸡公社、1987年建镇。[2] 百度百科的建镇年份同博雅地名网，为1986年。[1]
地理环境[edit]
镇域在丘陵地带，地势东北较高、西南较低，属亚热带季风气候。[1]
经济[edit]
据博雅地名网转载的镇情介绍，2004年全镇农村社会总产值8.29亿元，其中农业总产值3.26亿元、工业总产值1.74亿元，农民人均收入4120元。当年水果种植面积83834亩，产量38604吨，粮食种植面积29280亩，产量14187吨；全镇已有七类农业生产基地，分别是水稻、杂优制种、北运菜、水果、生猪、林木和淡水鱼。[4]
据百度百科，2019年全镇实现社会生产总值31.08亿元，荔枝和北运菜在产销上规模较大。[1] 荔枝是镇上的特色产业：省农业农村厅在2022年10月把谢鸡镇认定为「一村一品、一镇一业」专业镇，品种即荔枝。[3] 其后2025年5月，该镇进了「百千万工程」第二批专业镇的建设名单，2026年3月又被认定为同工程的第三批典型村镇。[3] 辖内罗迪坑村也以桂味荔枝入选第二批广东省专业村。[5]

谢鸡镇在2022年1月获命名「2021年度广东省卫生城镇」。[3] 博雅地名网转载的镇情称，2004年全镇参加中考的学生升学率为100%，其中237人被重点中学录取。[4]
名胜古迹[edit]
百度百科将官庄岭列为镇内景点，官庄村即因处于岭边而得名。[1][6] 丁颖故居在石塘村委会的新山村，清代所建，泥砖墙、瓦屋面，原有530平方米，年久失修后只剩约300平方米。丁氏后人2018年2月28日举行仪式，把故居捐给高州市政府。故居于2020年入选「第七批茂名市文物保护单位」。另据百度百科，省里拨来的文化遗产保护专项资金共90万元，用去45万元抢修加固故居。[7]
著名人物[edit]
丁颖1888年11月25日生于谢鸡乡石塘村的一户农家，是家中最小的儿子，也是家里第一个读书人。他1924年毕业于东京帝国大学农学部，维基百科称他是东京帝国大学里首位专攻稻作学的中国留学生；1927年筹建南路稻作育种场，1934年育成带野生稻血缘的水稻品种「中山一号」。[8][9]
丁颖1952年起任华南农学院首任院长，1955年当选中国科学院学部委员（院士），1957年出任中国农业科学院首任院长，于1964年10月14日在北京病逝。[8][9] 谢鸡镇因此有「丁颖故里」之称。[1]
