塘村在林头镇的东部。邻近的村有新屋村、黄阳村、北诏村、樟木山村、槟榔村、章班村、禾塘坡村、大坡村、石民村、板桥村、华楼村、尖角山村、大角村、大衙村。[1]

1953年时称塘村乡；1958年改称塘村生产大队；1983年改称塘村乡；1987年改称塘村村委会；1989年改称塘村管理区；1999年改称塘村村委会，此后名称沿用至今。[1]
