新港社区是广东省湛江市吴川市王村港镇的镇中心区，镇人民政府和圩镇都在这里[1]。社区下辖4条自然村，其中包括圩镇；2019年9月入选「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

社区原是覃寮大队、王村港渔业大队分设出的一个大队[2]。建国初的1950年，它隶属梅茂县第一区（覃巴）王村港乡；其后依次并入吴川县覃巴公社覃寮大队（1952年）、王村港小公社覃寮大队（1961年）、王村港大队（1975年），至1979年王村港渔业公社成立，又单独设置。1983年称乡委会，1987年称村委会，1989年起设居委会，2002年定名新港居委会，此后未变[2]。

地理与人口[edit]

据博雅地名网，社区总人口3460人、780户，面积4平方公里，耕地320多亩；东面接茂名的沙院镇，南临南海，设有滩涂和港口，沿海有防护林带[1][2]。地形以丘陵山地为主，人多地少，土地干旱[1]。

经济[edit]

居民以海洋捕捞和对虾养殖为主业，农业以香蕉、荔枝、龙眼等水果为主，工业有塑料制品、针织手套、木材加工和体育器材等，不少劳动力外出经商[1]。2005年，社区多方集资，建成一幢三层、约400平方米的办公楼，并修成覃寮村委会埇尾路口通往王村港、长界两村的1.3公里硬底化公路[1]。
