北和社区是雷州市北和镇政府驻地一带的镇中心区社区，名称由旧称“北河”改写而来。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
社区名由来：此地旧称“北河”，指溪河以北的地方；明万历年间（1572年）改写为“北和”，“河”“和”同音，取和睦相处之意。[1]
1982年在此征地兴建广东省地方国营北和糖厂，1999年成立北和社区居民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
广东省2018年“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建名单（2019年9月公布）中有该社区。[1]
