村名因位于六极岛上而来。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

1950年以前是徐闻县第十二行政村，1953年成为徐二区六极乡，六极大队建于1958年，1986年成为村委会，1987年成为管理区，1999年起成为村民委员会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2021年1月，六极村在湛江市2020年度评选中入选「全市文明村」。[1]

在2019年9月公布的名单中，它是「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」的创建单位。[1]
