村中的翰苑伍公祠是伍氏岭南翰苑房为纪念始祖所建的祠堂，离镇政府约4千米。[1][2]

各自然村都已接通自来水，村道全部硬化，可通往新台高速公路和双公线。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

翰苑伍公祠供奉岭南伍氏翰苑房的始祖翰苑伍公。据百度百科，这位先祖考中进士，做过翰林典章；祠堂被列为台山市的历史文物标志。[2] 族人以祠堂为凝聚宗族的场所，重视传承仁、义、礼、智、信的家风。[1][2]

村内设有卫生站、文化室和幸福院。[1] 村委会资料提到的在外经商乡贤有伍虫、伍镜存等。[1]

2018年，村里因防御台风「山竹」的工作获评台山市先进集体；2020年，五星村的村规民约被评为台山市优秀村规民约。[1]
