沙堆镇在广东省江门市新会区的东南部，东面隔虎跳门水道与珠海市斗门区相望，南面临黄茅海，西面和北面与古井镇相连。镇域面积97.88平方千米，2019年末总人口34440人[1]。镇人民政府设在沙堆社区，下辖沙堆社区和沙东、居安、沙西、八顷、大环、独联、梅阁、沙角、梅北、梅兴、那伏等11个村[2][3]。镇内旅居海外和港澳台的乡亲有3万多人，是江门的侨乡之一[2][3]。
历史沿革[edit]
关于镇名，有两种说法。一说南宋祥兴二年（1279年），有21户人家从南雄珠玑巷迁到此地建村，这里原是黄沙堆积之处，因而称沙堆[2]；另一说是肖姓先祖在此定居，祖祠前有一片黄沙积成的沙滩，镇名由此而来[3]。
明清时期，沙堆一带属潮居都。民国年间归新会县第八区；1955年起改隶古井区，1958年设古井公社；1961年析出另立沙堆公社，其后在1984年3月成为沙堆区，到1986年11月区制撤销、改设为镇[1][2][3]。2013年起，沙堆镇纳入大广海湾经济区的范围[2]。
地理环境[edit]
沙堆镇位于新会区东南端，濒临虎跳门水道和黄茅海。镇境以河网、鱼塘、沙洲和低山丘陵相间，气候属亚热带海洋性气候[1][2]。关于镇域面积，百度百科记为97.88平方千米，维基百科与博雅地名网均记为97.44平方千米，本条取前者作信息栏数值[1][2][3]。
人口[edit]
百度百科载：2019年末，镇内总人口为34440人[1]；博雅地名网引述第七次全国人口普查结果（2020年），称全镇人口3.52万，在新会区各街镇中居第9位[3]。1996年的统计是：耕地30708亩，33314人，分为18个管理区[3]。
经济[edit]
2019年，全镇工农业产值合计42.89亿元，当年投入的固定资产14.31亿元，增幅12.3%[1]。镇内的梅阁一带有金门工业区、洋关工业区，造船、制衣、铸锻等企业设在其中[4][5]；游艇制造企业海星游艇也在镇内[2]。农业方面，各村的集体收入多来自鱼塘养殖和发包。
过境道路有西部沿海高速（306省道）、365省道金门公路和540县道新斗公路；公交213路从新会汽车总站开往沙堆梅阁[2]。
名胜古迹[edit]
- 炮台山遗址：在梅阁炮台山西侧的沙丘上，东邻虎跳门海域，1983年发现，经试掘判断为商代时期的遗存，出土陶釜、陶罐、陶盘、陶钵、纺轮等[3]。
- 梅阁烈士墓园：在梅阁村马鞍山，2010年12月列入江门市市级文物保护单位（第六批）[3][4]。1949年10月，解放军在梅阁一带歼灭国民党军一部，这里安葬着12名烈士[5]。
荣誉[edit]
博雅地名网记：2020年2月，镇获「广东省卫生镇」称号（2019年度）；2026年3月，列入广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇[3]。
