村名由下辖的烟桥、南水两个自然村各取一字合成。[1]
经济[edit]
养殖淡水鱼是农业的主体，村子是九江镇优质鱼的重要产地，获南海区授予「加州鲈品牌村」；工业方面共43家企业，做五金加工、纸皮、家具、制罐印铁、头盔、卫浴和玻璃制品。村委会管1个经联社，下分中一、中二、东风、朝阳、永红、烟桥、兴一、兴二8个经济社。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
烟桥古村是羊城晚报2015年专题所介绍的一处古村：据该文，何氏六世祖慕庄公从石龙村迁来，在明正统十四年（1449年）开村，起初叫里海，后因村形像飞燕称燕桥，清中期建成大木桥后，早晚雾锁如烟，改称烟桥。[3]
村里留有何氏六世祖祠（也叫何氏大宗祠）、旌表节孝牌坊、兰桂坊、烟桥正道门楼和许多老民居，其中祠堂与牌坊列为佛山市文物保护单位。何氏六世祖祠清嘉庆十九年（1814年）重建，光绪十八年（1892年）重修，为二进三间、镬耳山墙硬山顶的建筑。[3]
村中以「烟桥正道」为南北轴线，两旁按元、亨、利、贞分四巷；祠堂旁有一片榕树林，只有一棵是原树，其余8棵由它引种而成，各记一桩历史事件。[3] 该文还说，香港中环兰桂坊的名字，源于村内星桥书舍的附属建筑兰桂坊，是何星桥在光绪二十年（1894年）回乡建的。[3]
