新乡是汕头市澄海区广益街道的社区，俗称埔美新乡，在澄海城区北郊。约1900年，埔美村民迁居此处形成新村落，原属埔美村。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

1900年前后，由埔美的村民移居而成新的村落，故称埔美新乡。[3]1959年划入澄海县农科所，1964年又单独成村，成立新乡生产大队，隶城关人民公社。1986年设新乡村，1996年1月澄城镇撤销后属广益街道，2002年设新乡社区。[2]

经济[edit]

社区现有人口722人、170户。西临汕汾公路，交通方便，很早就是澄海的运输大户。改革开放后土地较早开发，村民发展家庭塑料加工业和商贸业，有工业企业30多家，产品以塑料玩具为主。2009年工业总产值超过2亿元，人均纯收入8781元。[1]
