钱塘是汕头市濠江区滨海街道办事处驻地，位于濠江区西南部、南海之滨。村子由林梅轩从福建莆田迁来，南宋绍定三年（1230年）立村，原名塘边村。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

相传南宋绍定三年（1230年），林氏先祖林梅轩自福建莆田迁居此处，村址三面临水塘，故起名塘边村，后改称钱塘，取水聚财生之意。[1][2]

民国时期村属潮阳县招收都，1921年属第三区；1956年为钱塘乡；1958年起先后归红旗达濠农公社、河浦公社上塘大队，1987年为河浦镇的钱塘居委会。1994年河浦区设立，2003年撤区并入濠江区，钱塘改设居委会，归滨海街道。[2]

地理与人口[edit]

村域北与岗背、灯塔、华新交界，东邻华里、凤岗、南山，西接东陇、上店、林后、五一，地势自西北向东南渐低，总面积7495.23亩。到2009年底，全社区有1786户，户籍人口为8326人，工农业总产值达3138万元。[1] 街道概况记其有约200亩的高位养虾。[3]
