上木古社区在平湖街道西部，东邻新木社区，北靠华南城，辖区面积3.97平方千米，地铁10号线木古站设在这里。[1] 社区由上木古村演变而来，村子是清康熙三年（1664年）蔡氏先民从东莞迁来建立的。[2]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

相传这里原先长满参天大树，砍树之后才建了村，故称“木古”；清嘉庆《新安县志》的“都里”部分已载有“木古”。社区沿用村名。[3]

1949年上木古大队由两个生产队（上木古、新木）合成；1958年后先后归李木乡、布吉公社、平湖公社管辖；1989年改为镇村建制，新木大队成新木村委会，上木古为其下的自然村；1993年宝安县分设宝安、龙岗两区，上木古从新木村委会分出，设上木古村民委员会；2004年村改社区，归平湖街道。[2]

人口与经济[edit]

区政府网站称社区居住总人口2.6万，常住1.9万，户籍约2400人，有工矿企业180家。[1] 宝来工业区规划占地约21万平方米，集聚企业100余家。[1]

展览展示类的文化创意园自2015年开园，先后作过第十一届至第二十一届文博会和第十七届高交会的分会场，吸引160余家企业入驻，年产值超过100亿元，被评为省级文化产业示范园区和市级文化产业示范基地。[1]

名胜古迹与红色文化[edit]

平湖生态园在社区内，占地约3500亩，其中平地与山坡约2500亩、水面约1000亩，位于甘坑水库与苗坑水库之间。[4] 社区里还有白云窝公园、岭根吓休闲公园，以及作红色教育用的蔡马生烈士纪念碑。[1]

蔡马生是上木古村抗日自卫队的队长，也是村里的第一名共产党员。[5]

荣誉[edit]

社区得到的称号有「全国首批示范性老年友好型社区」「广东省民主法治示范社区」「广东省宜居社区」「广东省“六好”平安和谐社区」「深圳市先进基层党组织」。[1]
