甘棠镇位于福建省宁德市福安市西南部，临白马江，别称莲城，是福安的农业重镇。全镇辖1个社区、32个行政村，也是闽东北与浙南一带的物资集散地。[1][2][3]

地名由来[edit]

镇名之前叫作「三塘」。明嘉靖三十八年，县官卢仲佃提议修筑堡垒以防倭寇，乡民感念他的恩德，遂以「甘棠」相称。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期这里先设为区，1946年改称三塘镇。新中国成立后，1956年改为甘棠镇，此后数次在区、乡、公社与镇之间变动。1984年撤乡建镇，沿用至今。[1]

地理环境[edit]

据博雅地名网概况，镇域面积为103.7平方公里，山地约占七成（70%），平原为23.3%，水面为6.7%。沿海岸线长22.6公里，年均降雨在1700至1800毫米之间，年均气温18至20摄氏度，无霜期300至320天。104国道与甘下线疏港道穿镇而过。[2]

镇内有76个自然村和315个村民小组。据博雅地名网概况，全镇有9169户，居民41979名，农业人口为37564人，少数民族五千余人（年份未载）。[2]

经济[edit]

农业是镇里的主业，出产稻谷、甘薯、小麦、茶叶、水果、生姜和食用菌等，茶园逾万亩，果树以枇杷、龙眼、桃、柑桔、葡萄为多。[2] 船舶修造、贸易与拆解是另一重要行业，据博雅地名网所载，镇内的民间船舶修造贸易拆解业被称为全国规模最大的。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

镇内的文物古迹有宋代的倪下塔（位于倪下村），为福建省文物保护单位；明代的后岐八角井（位于后岐村）、明清时期的外塘渡船岸码头（位于外塘村）和清代的大车宫（位于大车村），均为福安市文物保护单位。[4][5][6][7][8]

荣誉[edit]

甘棠镇于2024年1月获得「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」称号。[1]
