塘下村位于西芹镇驻地南部约11.9千米，村内有4个自然村：塘下、水东、小溪、伏溪，1984年改为今名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明洪武元年（1368年）属大外里，清代仍之。民国时期归南洲乡，称塘泗保，后改属洋洲乡。1949年隶属第五区南洲乡，1954年划入第十区，称塘沙乡。1958年并入火车头（西芹）人民公社，1961年归南洲公社，1963年又并入西芹公社，1984年改为今名。[2][1]

地名由来[edit]

村中心有一池塘，村名由此而来。[3]

经济[edit]

村民以大棚种植为主，主要作物有西红柿、黄瓜、空心菜，并成立了绿圣蔬菜合作社。外出务工人员主要从事交通运输、种植、餐饮和服务业。[1]
