马山社区位于龙山镇镇中心区，得名于社区地形似马。解放后，这里先办过一个劳改场，至1962年撤销；随后改作省建设兵团的驻地，1972年又设上山下乡知识青年场。[1]

2000年，龙山镇增设马山居民委员会，社区由此设立。[2]
