塘东村位于围头半岛西南隅，东连陆地，西临大海，是革命老区基点村[1][2]。村域面积3.5平方千米，辖塘东、下寮、寮头、西安、后埭、山柄六个自然村[1][3]。

历史沿革[edit]

村始祖我东公约于南宋景定元年（1260年）在此定居，初居伏狮，后迁到池塘东侧，村名由此而来[1]。

明清时属十四都；民国33年（1944年）属金井镇塘东保。1956年隶属金井区，下设塘东乡，1961年改属金井公社，成为塘东大队，1984年起称金井镇塘东村委会[1]。

截至2008年，全村有4679人、986户。姓氏较多，蔡、吴、谢、王、许、粘等姓都有居民[1][2]。

姓氏宗族[edit]

村中的东蔡家庙是蔡氏祖祠，明代乡贤蔡缵于1541年中进士，1548年主持创修本族族谱[1]。祠堂民国元年（1912年）重建，后于1985年由海外侨亲集资重建，次年落成[1]。
