村名的来历是：这里原有一大片树林，称五里林，树木砍尽后形成一处大埔头，村因此得名[2]。

经济[edit]

村民以瓷砖经销和外出务工为主要生计[3]。

荣誉[edit]

村里先后获得「晋江市爱心社区」、泉州市「宽裕型文明村」、泉州市「2008-2010年度文明村」、泉州市「先进基层党组织」和「全省先进基层党组织」等称号[2]。

大埔村还曾被福建省确定为村镇住宅小区建设试点，并作为省内精神文明建设现场会、扫黄打非工作会议的参观点[2]。
