西村位于永春县海拔最高峰雪山的脚下，属呈祥乡中心区，距县城37多公里。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

西村原名西川，意为两边的溪流。后来黄姓人口逐步在此聚居，形成村落，遂以西村为名。[1]

此地在明朝为闽南二十二都的一部分。民国年间归苏坑区管辖，新中国成立后改属蓬壶镇。1958年才有呈祥公社之设，到1984年换为乡建制，原来的西村大队随之成为西村村委会。[1]
