村名与地势有关：村子所在一带地形起伏、坑洼不平，人们因此以“西坑”称之。[1]

荣誉[edit]

西坑村在2022年10月被福建省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]

2024年7月，村被命名为三明市2023年度达标“六无”村（社区）。[1]
