社背村位于宁化县城西南部，距县城13.2公里，海拔836米，属偏远的高山地区，辖6个自然村、10个村民小组。村名中的「社」指水口的神社公，「背」指神庙背面，村民曾在庙后聚居，形成村落。[1]

2015年10月，社背村被列入「福建省第一批省级传统村落」；2024年7月，又获评「2023年度三明市达标六无村（社区）」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期此地属兴善里，民国时期隶属第一区城南镇的社背保。建国初为第一区社背乡，1954年转属第八区方田一带，1956年归禾口区。1958年归方田公社，称社背大队；1961年改归巫高公社。1966年并入城关公社，称红星大队；1974年恢复社背大队名称。1984年改设社背村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
