新厝村位于新厝镇镇区所在地，是全镇的中心。国道324、福泉高速和福厦铁路穿过村域，交通便利。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村子原名外后屿。明初，黄氏自莆田迁来，在临海的丘陵上定居，起名玉屿；后来一支分迁到相邻的澳内，称内后屿。玉屿在南边，又称外后屿。聚落逐渐扩大，新屋增多，取其“新”意，定为今名。[1]
