水澄村的建置依次为：附城公社水澄大队（1958年）、黄花公社的水尾、澄塘两个大队（1961年）、附城公社水澄大队（1963年）、附城区水澄乡（1983年）、附城乡水澄村委会（1987年）、水澄管理区（1989年）、附城镇水澄村委会（1999年）。2009年7月起属紫城镇。^[1]

村名是1958年公社化时拼出的：由水尾、澄塘两个小乡各取一字组成。^[2]
