地名与历史[edit]
岛原称东洲沙。传说北宋包拯任满离开肇庆，船出羚羊峡口时，把属下代收的乡绅所赠端砚抛入江中，化为沙洲，岛因此叫砚洲岛；其下游还有一座小岛，相传由包裹砚台的黄布变成，叫黄布沙岛。[1]宋嘉定年间（1208年至1224年），罗姓人家从新会迁来建村。[2]1953年归高要县第八区，1955年2月划入广利区的砚洲乡，2002年4月起设砚洲社区居民委员会。[2]
经济[edit]
居委会概况称社区人口3150人（年份未注明），以种水稻、香大蕉和养鱼为主，并开展旅游，有包公祠、砚洲沙滩等。[1]2020年8月，砚洲社区入选首批「广东省一村一品、一镇一业专业村」（粉葛）；2019年9月，获广东省文化和旅游厅认定，成为首批「广东省文化和旅游特色村」，并入选「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
砚洲岛是国家3A级旅游景区，岛上有包公楼、陈焕章故居，“鼎湖包公诞”属肇庆市一级的非物质文化遗产。[3]
著名人物[edit]
陈焕章是砚洲人，曾任澳门《知新报》主笔，1911年取得哥伦比亚大学哲学博士学位，后在上海创办孔教会。民国3年（1914年）高要发大水，砚洲被淹，他倡议修筑砚洲基围，并赴香港筹款建成。[4]
