根子村属广东省茂名市高州市根子镇，是镇下设的行政村。相传村民为纪念村里一棵榕树庇护了孩子（命根子），因而得名。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1958年建人民公社时，根子、官垌、到湾、公垌四个大队合并为四合一大队，1960年体制下放后分开，单设根子大队。其后的名称是：1983年称根子乡，1986年称根子农村管理区，至1999年定为根子村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
