中田村在汕头市潮阳区河溪镇桑田片区，临榕江，村民多从事建筑业，被称为“建筑之乡”。[1]

据博雅地名网，宋末有人在此建村，初名桑田村；1949年桑田乡下分南田、中田、西田三村，其后沿革与南田村相近，1999年定名中田村委会。[1]村名取“沧海变桑田”之意，因位于桑田村中部。[2]
