1961年3月设社头大队，归樟市公社。[1]
地名由来[edit]
村在樟市镇西部，「约」取博文约礼之意，故称西约。[1]
经济[edit]
耕地方面，水田2500多亩，旱地200多亩；作物以优质谷、花生、黄豆为主（博雅地名网）。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2026年3月，被认定为广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇；2019年9月，列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
