下林村是登塘镇下辖的行政村，西南距登塘墟约2公里，西山溪在村西拐弯流过。[1]

村子所在处林木茂盛，原取名厦林，后改称下林。博雅地名网的概况称村子创于清康熙年间（公元1662~1722年），其历史沿革一节则写作1996年建村，两说并存。[1]

村子在1999年改为下林村民委员会。关于建村的年代，博雅地名网两处记载不一，见上文。[1]

经济[edit]

村内耕地323亩，以农业为主，种水稻、甘薯和甘蔗。山地种杂果，其中以菠萝最多，另有松、茶和生柑。村里有村民私人集资办的牛筋制品加工户1家。[1]

文化[edit]

村东有一片约2000平方米的古树林，历来被视为风水林。[1]

2019年9月，下林村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2020年12月，获「2020年广东省卫生村」称号。[1]
