西新街道是广东省潮州市湘桥区下辖的街道，位于潮州老城区西部，面积0.68平方千米，截至2021年10月辖9个社区。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，此地属西厢都。民国三年（1914年）改属潮安县西厢区，1949年归潮安县第一区，1950年划入潮安县城关镇西关办事处。[3][4]

1953年至1960年间，此地先后隶属潮州市西湖办事处、西湖街道，以及潮州市城关镇、潮州镇下的西湖管理区和西湖分社。1966年改属潮州镇西湖街道，1975年改属潮州镇第二街道，1980年1月转属潮州市第二街道。[4]

1984年5月，第二街道分出部分地域另设潮州市第六街道，当年6月更名为潮州市西新街道。1992年，此地划归湘桥区管辖。[4]

2021年，南春街道与西新街道经湘桥区人民政府同意撤销，合为一个新的西新街道。百度百科只记年份，维基百科记为2021年3月，博雅地名网的社区条目则以2021年5月为起点。[1][2][3]

合并前，南春街道下辖5个社区，据百度百科截至2020年6月的数字。维基百科列出的西新街道社区只有新桥、新合、西新、布梳街四个。[5][2]

地理环境[edit]

据百度百科，西新街道东边沿环城西路，邻接太平街道与西湖街道；南边以城新路为界，与南春街道相接；西边至新利巷，新桥西路延伸至永护路北侧一带，与城西街道接壤；北边以西河路及新桥西路为界。其中与南春街道相接的一句，指的是2021年合并前的界线。[1]

地名由来[edit]

街道位于潮州老城区的西部，且改革开放后才进行新的开发，故以「西新」为名。[3]

人口与经济[edit]

百度百科所载的数字为：2011年末户籍人口42129人。第七次全国人口普查的结果在2021年6月公布，街道人口为2.96万人，在湘桥区各街道乡镇中排第7位。[1][3]

百度百科称，2001年原西新街道的商户数为1390户，辖区已发展为市区的一处商贸中心。2011年，该街道的商品销售额年均3.3亿元。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

广济桥始建于1171年（南宋乾道七年），属全国重点文物保护单位。[7]

韩文公祠为第六批全国重点文物保护单位。[8]

2026年6月，湘桥发布刊载的报道说，西新街道党工委为推进“美丽城区·宜居家园”建设整治行动，列出了171处无物业管理的小区作为整治对象，另有15个环境脏乱的小区列为攻坚对象。南春路与振德街排在改造的前列，并有139条街路巷将被修复。[6]
