江南社区位于中堂镇北部，南临东江，西面与北面和增城坭紫接壤，东面是增城大墩。博雅地名网称它是东莞市唯一位于东江干流以北的行政村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，明洪武三十一年（博雅原文作1399年，按洪武纪年应为1398年），一名钟姓军人退伍后在此落户，取地名为江南，并兴建了钟氏宗祠。[1]

这一地方的隶属数次变化：1950年属第四区东斗乡，1953年改属十五区的江南乡；1958年建江南大队，1983年为江南乡，1987年为江南管理区，2005年定名江南社区居委会。[1]

人口与荣誉[edit]

2006年时，社区总面积0.8平方千米，没有耕地，辖5个村民小组；外来人口3837人，户籍人口2344多人。[1]

2017年5月，它被认定为第四批国家级充分就业社区；2022年1月，广东省乡村振兴局把它列入2021年广东省乡村治理示范村的创建名单；2026年1月，它获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]
