中心社区是中堂镇下辖的社区，居委会设在中堂墟中心，居民以非农业人口为主，另有一部分散户遍布全镇各村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

社区的前身是1959年组建的中堂居民生产大队。此后，因潢涌一带居民较多，便设了潢涌居民小组以便管理；1992年又在槎滘管理区设槎滘居民小组，2005年在东糖集团设东糖居民小组。[1]

建制名称也多次更换：先叫中堂镇居民管理区（1988年），再改作中堂居民委员会（1998年），2005年才定名为中心社区居委会，并沿用至今。[1]

人口与设施[edit]

居委会下辖5个居民小组，2006年统计的户籍人口为8501人。东莞市政府网站的行政区划页称，截至2019年底社区户籍人口已达12282人，外来人口约15000人，辖区面积1.7平方公里，并建有一个面积约86000平方米的大型文化广场。[1][2]
