沙角社区位于虎门镇南端，处于海陆交角，东接路东，西连沙角炮台。1985年，因辖区内有沙角炮台，博雅地名网称此地改名沙角，东莞市政府网的村落介绍则说是八十年代末改称沙角。[2][3]

外来人口近4.3万人，户籍6944人（2024年）。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

建国后，此地与宁洲从南宁乡分出，另设一乡叫基宁，归东莞县第六区。1954年改隶第十一区，即沙田区。1957年撤区并乡，划入沙头大乡。1958年设基宁生产大队。[2]

1983年撤队设乡，改称基宁乡，隶虎门区；1985年改称沙角乡；1987年改设沙角管理区，隶虎门镇；1999年改称沙角村委会，仍属虎门镇；2005年村改居。[2]

村落与基围[edit]

古村有滨沙、岗厦，隶属河仔、德隆围、红星等十多条基围小村。基宁之名，取基围求保安宁之意。清中叶前这里是海岛，北面水域为海滩，古时渔户在此登岸。[3]

河仔是虎门最早形成的基围村落之一，堤围经改建加固，达到一级堤围标准。德隆围建有水闸，引水养殖鱼虾。[3]

近年发展[edit]

进入八十年代，沙角先后建起三家大型火力发电厂，村民借助沙角电厂和古炮台的知名度引入外资，发展工商企业。村中原滨沙、岗厦两村前起建工商大街和住宅楼宇。[3]
