莫屋社区位于东莞市万江街道北部，东侧是石美社区，西侧是拔蛟窝社区，北面与黄粘洲社区相邻，隔东江支流与高埗镇相望。社区管辖莫屋旧村和莫屋新村两个自然村，面积约0.99平方千米。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网记载，村子最早叫蟠龙墩，因为村民多姓莫，才改称莫屋。南宋祥兴二年（1279年），岭南第一状元莫宣卿的第十四代后人莫上达举家从石美甘元坊迁居到这里。清康熙五年（1666年），莫敬和等四户向北迁约400米，另立了莫屋新村。[1]

此后村子几经归属，先划入附城区石美乡（1955年），后改属万江公社的石美大队（1961年）。1988年村里设立莫屋管理区，之后改作村民委员会，2005年转为社区居委会。[1]

人物与人文[edit]

街道办事处网站称，村中清代有莫凌，乾隆四十八年中举，嘉庆六年中进士，故村有「进士之乡」的美称。[2]

村民外出谋生的历史也较早，据载清咸丰十一年前后已有人前往马来西亚和美国旧金山。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2022年8月，莫屋入选广东省民主法治示范村（社区）的创建名单；同年1月，它也被列为2021年度广东省乡村治理示范村的创建对象。[1]
