潭头村在行政上归广东省汕尾市陆丰市南塘镇管辖，是镇内24个行政村委会之一[1]。2025年3月，当选「第七届全国文明村镇」[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

潭头1952年设乡，属第五区（南塘区）；1959年成为潭头大队。1975年划入东桥公社，1983年东桥公社撤销，回归南塘区，改称潭头乡；1987年改设村民委员会，属南塘镇；1994年称管理区，1999年复称村委会，沿用至今。龙岭村后来由潭头大队分出。[1]

据博雅地名网所载的村情，潭头村在南塘镇西片，湖碣公路从村西经过，村南有一口大池塘，村周围种有果树；已有外出人士回村投资，办起农民市场[1]。
