湖东镇位于广东省汕尾市陆丰市的东南沿海，北面是南塘镇，西面是碣石镇，东面与甲西镇交界，南边就是南海；境内的湖东港是陆丰的主要渔港之一。[3][7]镇名取自「十二湖之东」。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

据陆丰市人民政府网站，这里早先叫大箖投。相传明万历十四年（1586年），丁、关、唐三姓族人从福建来到此地定居。[2]百度百科的写法是「大籍投」，并记清雍正九年（1731年）在此设有隶属石帆都的湖东埠。[1]清代这里归陆丰县石帆都管辖；辛亥革命之后，因为位于十二湖的东面，改名湖东，民国时期曾先后设区、设镇。[2]

新中国成立初期，湖东属陆丰县第四区（碣石区）。1951年另设第七区，即湖东区；1957年冬，撤区并乡，第七区改为湖东乡。1958年湖东镇先被划为县辖镇，同年冬天与乡合并，建湖东人民公社。1984年3月，广东省人民政府批准设立建制镇。[2]

市政府网站给出的坐标约为东经115度52分、北纬22度47分，镇距陆丰市区45千米，距汕尾市中心90千米。[3]海岸线长约16千米。[7]面积各处说法不一：百度百科为59.59平方千米，博雅地名网为约54平方千米。[1][6]

人口与区划[edit]

据百度百科，截至2019年末，全镇户籍人口111124人；博雅地名网则写作总人口约5.88万人，两处统计口径不同。[1][6]镇下辖宁海、宁光、宁湖、宁港4个社区和18个行政村。[5]百度百科记镇人民政府设在后陂坑村。[1]

经济[edit]

湖东港是陆丰五大渔港之一，镇里的石斑、龙虾、马鲛、鱿鱼、带鱼供应市内各处市场。[7]镇政府提出依港立镇，并以一家龙头企业带动农户，种养蔬菜、荔枝、鲍鱼和虾蟹。[7]百度百科引用的数据是：2011年镇财政总收入380万元，2019年有工业企业7家，其中规模以上的1家。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

陆丰市人民政府网站列出的景点中，十二湖在镇西3千米的海边，是十二个大小各异的天然小湖，最大的约0.12平方千米，最小的仅约0.0015平方千米，湖与海之间只隔着数十米宽的浮沙。[4]沿海16千米的海岸线连成沙滩，岸后有两万多亩防护林。[4]当地人称「八景」，其中有前后海的景色、烟墩、妈祖祈福处、十二仙湖、港口群雕、海甲观潮。[4]

后海一带即狮球王景区，岸线约2.5千米，靠海处水浅坡缓。烟墩是其中的古迹：三合土夯成的方台，高6米、宽5米；据清乾隆《陆丰县志》，明崇祯七年（1634年）因宁海是重要渔港，增设了海滨望墩。如今墩上装有航标灯。景区内另有狮球王石、象鼻石、小狮石和一口与海水齐平的古井。[8]海甲山在镇东约4千米，列「陆丰八景」。[7]博雅地名网还称，镇内天后宫列入《陆丰文物》，贺龙、叶挺率南撤部队曾到过这里。[7]
