望湖社区在甲子镇西南，北与新寨、城西、高地社区交界，东邻新湖社区，西、南两面与甲西镇山尾村相连。辖区内有盐业管理区和天然避风塘。[1]

辖区约2.5平方公里，户籍11600人、2400户。社区内的盐业管理区生产海盐；天然避风塘可供1000多艘渔船避风。全区分12个小网格，设禁毒专业队13人、志愿服务队20人。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网载，1950年望湖社与新关社、天堂社三个自然村合并，定名望湖社府办事处。1972年改称管理区，1978年称居民区，1986年称农管区，1999年改为居委会，2002年起称望湖社区居民委员会。[2]社区介绍则说它成立于1974年12月。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

社区内的西宫妈祖庙始建于清康熙年间，2000年重修。介绍称，它是闽南移民文化传入甲子的实物资料。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，社区入选2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2020年12月，获广东省爱卫会授予的2020年广东省卫生村称号。[2]
