元新村在镇西，离镇政府驻地一公里，占地5.2平方公里左右，分3个村民小组，人口1040多。村民主要养对虾和膏蟹挣钱；博雅地名网说村子属广东省的农业现代化示范区。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网，1965年起归小漠公社，此前1960年在鹅埠公社名下，1959年在圆墩公社名下，1953年是鲘门区辖地，而最早的1952年，这里还从惠东县划出、编入海丰县四区。元新大队建于1974年；1984年称元新乡，1987年起是村民委员会，1989年改叫办事处，1998年又恢复村民委员会的名称。[1]
2026年3月，元新村入选「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村镇」。[1]
