田尾在1951年12月设乡，1958年改为大队，1984年复称乡，1987年起设村民委员会，1999年5月定名田尾村。[1]

2020年8月入选「首批广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村」名单，特色产业为兰花。[1]
