石鼓镇是广东省茂名市高州市西南部的镇，北接高州市区，东邻茂名市区，南与化州市交界，镇政府驻石鼓圩[1][2]。全镇面积约155平方千米，下辖3个社区和29个行政村[1][3]。镇名来自镇区西南的一座石山，山顶有大石坪，敲击时声如擂鼓[1]。据第七次全国人口普查，镇人口9.23万，在高州市各街道和乡镇中居第2位[1]。镇内的南茂坡宫皇庙是广东省文物保护单位[4]。

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期，此地属联德乡。新中国成立初期归茂名县，先为第十一区，后改称石鼓区；1958年建石鼓公社，1983年又改回区，1986年12月以后设镇[1]。维基百科则写作1957年置石鼓乡、1987年建镇[3]。两处说法在建镇年份上相差一年，此处并录。

原祥山镇后来并入石鼓镇，其驻地一带现为祥山社区和祥山村[9]。

名称由来[edit]

镇区西南有一座石山，山顶有块大石坪，用石头撞击会发出隆隆的声响，像敲鼓，当地称这座山为石鼓岭，镇和圩都以此得名[1][3]。

地理环境[edit]

镇在高州市的西南角：东与茂名市区相连，南界化州市，北靠高州市区，西与广西相邻[2]。维基百科记载镇域面积155.2平方千米，博雅地名网的概况页写作150平方千米[2][3]。鉴江流经北部的三文田村一带[6]。

人口[edit]

按2020年开展的第七次全国人口普查，全镇有9.23万人[1]。维基百科引用的数据为：2000年户籍人口58477人，总人口95183人[3]。概况页另称全镇总人口11万、集镇常住人口2.5万，未注明年份[2]。

博雅地名网转载的镇概况大约写于2004年。其中说，石鼓是广东省的重点工业卫星镇，镇内分布着祥山，以及低坡的制革、西基山的造纸、九罡的塑料加工、黄头的建材等工业区，支柱行业为不锈钢制管、制革、造纸、塑料、铸造和建材；乡镇企业共2559家，工业企业占509家[2]。该年的生产总值为6.9亿元，农民人均纯收入3980元，农业总产值4.64亿元[2]。同页还记有五类专业市场，合计占地2.3万平方米，年成交额1.3亿元，其中农贸综合市场多年被评为“全国文明市场”[2]。维基百科称，2010年的地区生产总值为35.05亿元，并称石鼓镇是高州市第一大镇，也是该市唯一的国家重点镇[3]。

名胜古迹[edit]

南茂坡宫皇庙在南茂坡村小学旁，又名青山寺、宫皇楼，嘉庆五年（1800年）创建，同治年间与民国十五年（1926年）都曾修葺，属广东省第九批省级文物保护单位[4][5][10]。留存至今的主体是一座两层楼阁，砖木结构，梁架抬梁与穿斗并用，三开间、进深三间，宽24米、深13.5米，砖砌八棱柱，歇山顶，正脊中央有灰雕双凤朝阳[4][5]。全庙本有三进——宫皇庙、魁星楼、三圣宫，占地约5亩——前两进在1970年代塌毁，2012年重建[5][10]。庙内立有民国十五年所刻《重修宫皇庙记》碑，记载庙的来历[10]。民国时庙里办过私塾，建国后改作南茂坡小学校舍，直到2000年学校迁出[5]。
