望夫镇是广东省茂名市电白区东北部的建制镇，北面是罗坑镇，西面隔着沙琅镇，南面是马踏镇和观珠镇，东面与阳西县新圩镇交界；镇政府设在望夫社区，辖1个社区和10个行政村。[1]据百度百科，面积为95.33平方千米，2019年末有户籍人口45706人。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网所载沿革：隋、唐时这一带属电白县南境，清代属得善乡二图，并归沙琅巡检司管辖；进入民国，1912年后归第四区，到1941年分设望夫、莲洞两乡。[2]新中国成立当年的11月，这里是六区（沙琅）所辖的望夫乡；1957年2月先设望夫、丰垌等中乡，当年年底并成望夫大乡。[2]1958年9月划入东风公社，次年6月单独建望夫公社；1983年11月公社改为区，1987年4月区改为乡，1988年5月乡改为镇，沿用至今。[1][2]

博雅地名网说，镇名取自东部望夫山、望夫石的传说。[2]

地理环境[edit]

镇域气候属亚热带季风气候。[1]镇内花岗岩覆盖面积约40平方千米，据博雅地名网所载介绍，储量达27亿立方米，品种多，有紫梅花、中花白、芝麻黑、幼花等花色。[3][4]百度百科对电白区的介绍提到，区内三处天然湖泊之一的大水龙潭（又名龙母潭）在望夫镇北部的白云顶，面积5333平方米，潭的长和宽各30多米。[5]

维基百科引用的2006年数据是：粮食作物1962公顷，辣椒、四季豆、冬瓜等外运蔬菜930公顷，南药410公顷，水果4200多公顷。[4]交通上，省道沙儒公路自东向西穿过镇内，田望线由北向南接325国道；镇内另有2座水电站，合计装机1500千瓦（博雅地名网概况，未注明年份）。[3]2019年的统计里，全镇工业企业9个，规模以上的占2个。[1]

维基百科称，2006年镇内设中学1所、小学10所，在校生6800多人，当年农村合作医疗参保率在80%以上。[4]
