牛路头1958年成立大队，其后改为乡，1985年设村委会；1989年至1992年的一段时间称管理区，1999年回到村委会的名称[1]。

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，牛路头村名列「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单；2021年1月，入选「湛江市2020年度全市文明村」名单；2026年3月，村被认定为「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村镇」[1]。
