据所载，村委会辖内各姓的先祖，自1668年起陆续从福建莆田迁来定居。1968年并为三大队，1985年立东塘乡，1999年改设东塘村民委员会。[1]

东塘村入选「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」（2019年9月公布）。[1]
