牛岭村是廉江市塘蓬镇的行政村，村名由「鳌头岭」「鳌岭」转写而来。[1]

地名与沿革[edit]

村形酷似鳌鱼头，村民起初称鳌头岭村，后简称鳌岭；解放初为书写方便，改写作「牛岭」。[1]

1950至1957年，谢花、龙首咀等自然村合组一乡，乡所设在谢花村；1958年谢花、牛岭各设大队；1983年设牛岭乡；1987年改管理区；1999年改为牛岭村委会。[1]
