下桥镇在广东省湛江市徐闻县的西北部，北面与雷州市英利镇相连，东、南、西分别邻曲界镇、城北乡和迈陈镇，镇政府设在下桥圩，距县城约16千米。[1]2021年10月，全镇划为4个社区、12个行政村。[1]下桥圩在明正德年间形成，初称隆盛市，后因傍着公路上的下桥而改叫下桥市，镇名由此而来。[2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网所载，下桥圩形成于明正德年间，最初叫隆盛市（圩），后改称下桥市（圩）。[3]明清两代，这一带属积善乡。[1][3]进入民国，先是1931年的六区板桥镇，1940年划归一区，随后隶属青桥乡，称下桥保。[3]

1950年5月设徐四区，辖5个行政村；1957年底撤区建下桥乡，有6个高级社；1958年10月并入下桥镇人民公社（别名东方红公社），下分18个生产大队；此后1983年建区，1987年才定名为镇。[3]

地理环境[edit]

镇域位于雷州半岛腹部，地势平缓，土壤大多由玄武岩发育成砖红壤，属热带季风气候。博雅地名网转载的概况称，镇内有合溪水库，年均气温约23摄氏度，年均降雨量1364毫米，耕地约8.5万亩。[3]镇驻地的经纬度约为东经110°07′、北纬20°27′。[3]

人口[edit]

据2004年底的统计，全镇共有42100人，农业人口占36300人。[3]2019年末，户籍人口为57431人。[1]第七次全国人口普查的结果约为4.26万人，在徐闻县各街道乡镇中居第6位。[2]

经济[edit]

2004年前后，镇内形成甘蔗、蚕桑、剑麻、北调蔬菜、香蕉五大种植基地，其中甘蔗、蚕桑是徐闻县十大商品生产基地中的两个。[3]207国道自南向北穿过镇境，被称为徐闻北面的门户。[3]2019年，全镇有工业企业12个，其中规模以上3个；营业面积达到50平方米的综合商店或超市有40个。[1]

荣誉[edit]

下桥镇在2024年3月获评2023年度的广东省卫生乡镇。[2]下桥村、北良村、迈埚村于2026年3月被认定为广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇，那利村于2026年1月入选第二批典型村。[2]
