民主社区在沙井街道西北部，北与东莞市交界，西临珠江口，辖区面积6.5平方公里，社区名表达土改时村民对民主的向往。[1]

沿革[edit]

新中国成立后叫过民主大队和村民委员会，1993年1月改称沙井民主村委会，到2004年7月，因城市化改制而改设民主社区居民委员会。2022年8月名列第二批深圳市绿色（宜居）社区。[1]

人口与经济[edit]

介绍所载，社区总人口2.6万多人，其中户籍居民510户1323人；社区有三条旧自然村和多个住宅小区，设有民主股份合作公司，并配有老年人活动中心、图书馆和运动设施。海上田园旅游区位于沙井民主大道一带。[1]
